just wanted to note how the weather has been so weird across the whole country.... snowing in places it usually doesn't, and here, getting rain in January and February... I don't remember such strange weather when I was younger. This year we are getting absolutely SOCKED with snow, I don't remember another year quite this bad. Another 8-12 inches on the way! I haven't worked a full pay period since before Christmas! NOT good :(

Is everyone noticing the strange weather patterns?? I have to say I don't much care for it.... I am SO tired of dealing with commuting in the terrible conditions..... And worry, worry worrying about my kids driving in it. And, then there's the hubby who is driving semi in it.... All I have to say is I'll be keeping the hair color companies in business

I just gave the boys their daily rawhide bones, and Gilligan flung himself across both their beds to enjoy his. :) But Skipper kept running anxiously to me, giving me his bone, then taking it back. He couldn't settle down - back and forth. Drop the bone in my lap. Pick it up again. Dash around distractedly. Drop the bone again . . . It took me awhile, but I finally figured it out: a dog cannot enjoy a rawhide bone unless the dog has a dog bed to lie on while he chews. It is like French Fries without ketsup. Coffee without cream. Potatoes without gravy. I retrieved his bed for him from Gilligan, and now they are both lying contentedly gnawing away. :D

Yesterday morning I got up pottied everyone, fed the cats, and was doing some dishes. Behind me I heard the very slow 'tick, tick, tick ' of doggie toenails moving across the kitchn floor - turning around I found Sylke literally tiptoeing to the cats room, intent on stealing their breakfast.

"Sylke!!! You get back!"

"Woooo wooo wooo" (Sylke is quite sassy) but she went back in the livingroom.

I turned my back and continued doing dishes....

Tick, tick tick - nails on the kitchen floor again...

"Sylllkkeee!!"

"A WOOOO WOOO WOOO....."

"Sylke you git back!!"

Back she goes......

I continue with dishes..........tick tick.......I turn around and she is standing there - peeking around the corner at me to see if I'm going to notice her - before I can say anything....

"WWOOOOOOO WOOOOOO WOOOOOOO...."

Sheesh - sometimes I think that dog is too damn smart for her own good.

My mothers white shepherd has ear mites. She hasn't worked due to health problems and I don't have the money to offer her. We need to find a way to cure these things. The dog is miserable and people I have talked to say a vet will milk an owner when they know it's ear mites. Can one of you please tell me what she can do?
I suggested Seargents flea and tick shampoo because they have moved to her body (dogs) Cephalaxin (my dog has left over antibiotics I was going to give her, it's a new refill, benedryl. I told her to clean out the ears but we need something to kill them inside the ear.
I have drops here but I can't afford to give her my medicine because she will NEVER pay me back and I use it on Picasso alot. He gets infections from baths sometimes.
Please hurry and let me know what to use. This poor dog is miserable.

I woke up so happy this morning :) - early morning is my favorite time of day! So quiet, so still and peaceful . . . The cat stood up and stretched, and walked over my head so he could look into my face. He spied one eye half open. "Yowie Kazowie!!!! Breakfast time!!!!" He ecstatically began to awaken the dawn in his strong but unmusical voice. The sound tore through the quiet like a buzzsaw. The dogs' eyes snapped opened. They rolled off their beds and dove at each other in their usual frenzied early morning wrestle. The cat's wailing rose a few decibles. Over the row, my husband's voice rang out, "COFFEE!!!!" :)

I waded through happy furry bodies to the kitchen. Fed the cat. Let the dogs out. Poured the coffee. In the sudden silence, I could hear our tenants moving downstairs. Oh no - Now they were awake too! I looked at the clock: only 5 a.m. Somehow the bloom of the early morning was wearing a little thin . . .

I'm an avid reader and can't stand to be without a book. I visit 3 of our library branches constantly and browse the used book store.

With the chemo & radiation treatments starting soon, it will limit my extracurricular running around.

I've been thinking about getting a Kindle or a Nook, an electronic book reader where I can instantly download books to read. I'm hesitant on spending the money as I'm not sure how the cancer will effect my ability to work.

I was wondering if anyone here has one and if they can share their review or viewpoints on them.

As I watch him sleeping in my chair right now, so peaceful and knows he is in his forewver home. Barney loves to find and roll around in gross stuff, likes to run up to me just to get some affection which I am more than glad to return...seems to get happier with each passing day. Obeys (sometimes) and is particularly fond of chasing squirrels.

I am so proud of you Barney and you just knew you were home the minute I picked you up at the airport. I don't remember ever not having you! Happy Birthday big guy...and I look forward to many, many more birthdays! :clapclap: :puppyrun: :woof:

Hi all!

I've been doing a bit of catching up and I was so glad to see that John Wayne is back, Matt had some hatchlings and Marla has new eggs! And that Snickers has joined Marla! Wow! See what I miss when I go away!

Things here are well. With all the rain though, Moe got rained out of her burrow. I went out about a week ago and pulled her in, got her dried out (overnight) and then put her in the garage in a large box. I feel like a horrid mom but I didn't want to keep her inside and totally screw up her sleeping cycle.

I went out to the burrow and dug it out a bit. Turns out that while sleeping my girl has grown. She was stuck in the burrow and I had to dig her out! I've got the burrow fixed up but it's still damp in there. When can I put Moe outside again? I don't want her getting sick but the garage is slowing warming up with the warmer days and she is a-stirring.

Suggestions?

xoxo

My youngest brother is a fireman/EMT in the city of Austin (Texas) As he says he goes on far more medical calls and accidents or wrecks than actual fires. He was down two weeks ago with more of my kin to duck hunt and he gave me a butt chewing.

A while back he had told me that I needed to make a list of all my meds, dosage, and what they were for (seems some can be taken for more than one ailment) plus all my doctors and PUT IT ON THE FRONT OF THE FRIDGE and actually in a couple more obvious places. Also keep same list in your wallet or purse.

Said to many times they make a call and a person is unresponsive and of course they have no idea of medical condition, meds, etc. It is a great help to them and the paramedics to have this information.

It can save your life in a nunmber of circumstances such as diabetic coma. If they have some idea what to look for, those few minutes saved can save your life.

When he was down 2 weeks ago of course he noted I had NOT put that list up anywyere and he chewed me out about it. He is right. this should be done when any memember of the house is on meds, especially for life threatening ailments. Just thought I would pass it along.

I took Skipper out today and noticed once again his obsession with defending every little dog in the park against what he perceives as aggression (though it is only playing) from larger dogs. Sometimes he has to stop and think which dog is smaller so he can defend it. He gets close to fights with the big dogs, who don't take kindly to his interference in their fun. And the little dogs don't get what is going on at all. And sometimes THEY are even the aggressors, but Skipper will defend them all the same against the poor mutts they are attacking. It sounds funny, but it makes taking him to the park a bit stressful! He even defends the cat, although he chases Mocha himself. Oh yeah, he lets Gilligan chase the cat too. But no one else!!! Any ideas? He hasn't been in a fight yet, but not because he isn't willing! I drag him away and scold him, and he lies humbly on his back and repents, but then he gets up and does it all over again. Argggghh!

You cannot see it - but her little constant companion, Thibodeaux is curled up beside her under the throw on the right

Poor little girl. I put her chicken stew on to cook yesterday afternoon and the house does smell wonderful (chicken, sweet potatoes, apples, spinahe all cooking together). Well, this morning I put her 3/4 cup of Taste of the Wild kibble in her pan and she looked at it, then at me, then back to it and then back to me. She could certainly smell that stew and I know she was wondering why none of it was in her food.

She always just gets the dry for breakfast and then the 3/4 cup dry with 1/2 cup of the stew or fish (3 days out of 8) BUT the thing is, once I cook it, I do it up into containers for 5 days and freeze all but one. Each day I heat up that 1/2 cup and add it to her supper. SO except for cook dayk the only time she smells it is when I heat it for her supper. Guess she thinks any time she can smell it she must be going to get it. Poor girl.

He was 4 last July and the pic was taken around then, also around that time he had his first epileptic episode, he's had a few more since then and is now on medication, it was very scarey to see this happen and it was straight out of the blue.

The boyz and I were walking along a bank above a pond this afternoon when we heard a splash (sounded lilke a whale surfacing!) Naturally, the dogs raced down the bank to check it out. They came to a sudden halt, noses to beak with a large heron perched on a log with a fish.:eek: The perfectly composed bird fixed them with a thoughtful stare. The dogs immediately decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and fell over each other racing back up the bank - probably to see if I was alright! (heh heh) The heron didn't even smile, though all the ducks seemed to enjoy the spectacle! Gilligan claims it was Skipper's idea. Skipper doesn't want to talk about it.

At night after dinner they always would play and chase each other around the dining room table. Millie hot on Pearls butt barking. They would stop and change direction.

Now at that time of night Pearl goes and gets her toy and whines. Yesterday she was out with John while he was in the shop. He said she came into the shop, whining. She had something in her mouth. John called her over and checked to see what it was. She had some of Millie's fur from when I had groomed them just before Christmas. I leave it out for the birds to use for nesting. When I came home from work and he told me this...all we could do is stand there and cry. I feel so bad for her. We understand, she doesn't.

Yes, you read that correctly. A week ago Saturday, I saw Midnight sitting over something on the dining room floor. I thought at first she had puked..so I wnet and got a paper towel and when I picked it up it was a dead bat. So. It had been -12 wind chill factor the week before, and I figure the thing froze to death and either Tal or Barney (more likely culprit) drug the thing inside.

First thing crossed my mind was rabies. I talked to the vet Monday and they recommended Tal, Barney, and Midnight getting a rabies booster. So off to the vet all THREE of them go. All is well, and I doubt the bat had rabies, but still. Better safe than sorry.
